What’s new for 2018/19? A big change this year as we move to the New Apprenticeship Standard for an Engineering Technician.
Machinist – Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
Role Profile:Machinists in the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering sector are predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex and precision work, machining components from specialist materials using conventional and/or CNC machine tools such as centre lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, horizontal and cylindrical grinding machines, electro discharge machines, single and multi- axis CNC machine tools centres.
FGP are well placed to deliver this new standard, unfortunately our training partner Weymouth College are not. We have therefore taken the decision to work with Yeovil College for the foreseeable.
As the Standards are brand new we will be developing them together with Yeovil College, this will give our current cohort of new apprentices the most up to date and relevant qualifications to our industry, and Completion of the Apprenticeship is designed to be recognised by the relevant Professional Engineering Institutions at the appropriate level of professional registration (EngTech).
Our 2018 intake will be 4 Apprentices at FGP Systems and 2 at FGP Lufton, all will be based at the Training Centre for the foundation competence phase of their Apprenticeship. This will include classroom as well as workshop lessons, hence the newly painted and refurbed office/classroom.
